Wholesome Canine is owned and operated by a team of two experienced and accredited canine professionals with a combined 20+ years working with dogs. We opened the store to create a safe place to shop for your dogs whether you want to feed them cooked or raw food, provide natural supplements that actually work, or you just want to ensure your treats and grooming supplies are sourced ethically and are good for your dogs.
We’ve put a lot of time and care into curating our product selection and each one has a place in the store and reason for being here.
Christine Ford, Cert.ACN, is a founding partner of Wholesome Canine. Christine had been operating Wholesome Canine as an online nutrition consultation service since 2012. She has formulated home cooked meal and supplement plans for many dogs, changing lives along the way.
Christine achieved a Certificate in Advanced Canine Nutrition from CASI, graduating with honours and completing all 8 electives, a feat achieved by only one other student. With the help of her mentor Dr. Jean Dodds, (one of the world’s most renowned holistic veterinarians), she continues to expand her expertise. Christine's also an associate member of the College on Integrative Veterinary Therapies.
The foundation of Christine’s passion for dogs was her 14 year tenure as the owner-operator of oh my dog!, one of Toronto’s first and most respected dog walking services. Along the way, she also found time to create and/or manage two different community organizations.
Christine is an administrative volunteer at Lost and Found Pets Toronto, a group of volunteers who use social media and feet on the ground to help reunite countless owners with their missing pets. She is also the Co-Founder of Toronto Rabbit Rescue, which rescues abandoned pet rabbits and adopts them to new loving homes.
Helen Moore, Canine Training and Behaviour expert. Born and raised in Ireland, Helen is a member of the PDTE and the PPG. She's been dog obsessed from a very young age. She moved to Toronto in 2008 to study holistic nutrition. Soon after graduating she got her first dog, Seamus, who was plagued with digestive issues for the first few weeks of his new life with her. This prompted her to switch her nutrition focus from humans to canines catapulting her into the world of canine health and wellness. In 2010 she started Who’s Yer Doggy, a lifestyle and wellness company for dogs. Through her years of dog walking she became interested in behaviour as many of the dogs she attracted were considered “problem children". Because of them she wanted to find effective ways to make life better for them.
She spent a year studying with the world-renowned dog trainer, Turid Rugaas, and in 2015 became certified in training and behaviour. She's on a mission to change how we interact with dogs, how to understand them better, and how to provide for them in the best way possible.
