Psyllium husk powder can be used in two separate ways: sprinkle a little on your dog’s or cat’s food a few times each week as part of their gut support routine, or use it in higher amounts to get acute diarrhea under control. Instructions are below.

In cats, psyllium husk can be used to help with some chronic digestive issues, such as constipation and hairballs.

If your dog or cat shows signs of digestive upset that persists or is accompanied by other symptoms, such as vomiting, lethargy, fever, or bloody stool, always contact a veterinarian. If your dog or cat has been previously diagnosed with a digestive disorder or is taking any kind of medication, always ask your vet before giving them any supplements.

For acute diarrhea in dogs and cats: Use 1 gram per 10 lb of body weight.

For chronic digestive issues in cats: Add between 1/8 and 1/2 tsp per day to wet or fresh food. If your cat doesn't drink very much, add as much water to their food as they'll tolerate.

HOW TO GIVE PSYLLIUM HUSK

  • Mix well with food to avoid inhalation or choking.
  • Always provide plenty of fresh water, as psyllium absorbs liquid and needs to be hydrated to work properly.
  • Start with a smaller dose and increase as needed to see how your dog or cat responds.
