Duck Bone Broth with Cleavers
Duck feet slowly simmered with cleavers.
Named for its habit of "cleaving" to things, cleavers are long, stringy herbs that grow in the spring. Generally regarded as a pest in agriculture, they've long been popular in herbal medicine.
The main benefit of cleavers is as a diuretic, moving fluids through the lymphatic system (the collection of organs, vessels, and tissues that help balance fluids in the body) and out through the urinary tract.
Cleavers might help your dog if they have
- swollen lymph nodes
- a urinary tract infection
- skin inflammation (as a result of a sluggish lymphatic system)
- bloating (as a result of water retention)
- any illness, as the lymphatic system is closely tied to the immune system
Do not use cleavers if your dog has
- diabetes
- heart conditions
- kidney conditions
